Nursing the Computer Along...

After a couple of stable days I'm getting the occasional issues again.

Nothing major, more annoying than anything. So I've made sure that all my photos and documents are backed up so I don't lose anything if it should suddenly conk out.

I just realised that I have a lot of bookmarked websites that it will be useful to save too, as I lost a few useful saved sites when my previous computer finally went...

So this week I will be researching what's available to replace my desktop.

Which to choose?
I'm also going into a busy spell for the next six weeks.

While everything is still working I intend to get back to the chapter two rewrite, having taken a break to get a couple of short stories out and on the way- and to get to know a minor character that needs to appear at chapter two or early on in chapter three.

I have a stack of competition entries to read for the writers' club national competition - I'm one of five readers; and while the Chairman is away I'm in charge too, so there's lots to do before the AGM next month.

There will be an online item later in the week too, but more about that on Thursday.

Any recommendations on the best computer brands? And what's your experience of Windows 10?

I don't know much about computer brands, Carole, but I've heard a lot of moaning about Windows 10. :(

Hope you get the computer fixed out, Carol - I wouldn't know where to begin with a new one so hoping I don't need to think about it for ages yet! I also haven't downloaded Windows 10 as I'm happy with version 7 and want to hold onto it.

I got a good deal at Tesco on an Acer laptop a couple of years ago (plus Tesco Clubcard points). I've avoided upgrading to Windows 10 so far.

Computers are so frustrating when they go wrong, aren't they?

I just have a laptop - I need that for writing in the van. When I'm at home I connect it to another monitor (useful to have two for editing) plus a keyboard and mouse.

I don't use Windows at all. Not any help at all, am I?

I'm not sure about Windows 10, but it does keep popping up telling me I should be buying it. The only thing I could think of is that it will be a lot quicker than Windows 7. I have that on my laptop and it is so so slow.

I suppose it's the same situation as when everyone had to move up from XP or Vista.

I like Windows 7, as I've been using it since I bought this current computer, and I suspect it's going to take time learning W10.:)

At the moment it's okay as long as I keep on top of the maintenance, but having had the blue screen of death a few times I know it's on the way out.

I'm looking at all the options available to me at the moment- confusing is an understatement. :-)

It's always helpful to know that there's flexibility, Patsy. Thanks.

I think we all have so many requirements of our computers now, Eve.

Often slowness is due to the provider and download speeds, but my computer is getting slower to respond, obviously another indicator that it's giving up.
