Over the weekend I finally got to meet (in person) a couple of my writing buddies (and fellow bloggers) Patsy Collins and Maria Smith. The three of us are also involved with #writingchat on Twitter on Wednesday evenings.
Carol, Maria and Patsy |
The weather was not good; cool and threatening to rain, so we went for a walk first to burn up the calories, before we retreated to the warmth of the cafe for coffee and cake- and more talking.
Fortunately we were inside when the heavy rainfall started, and were only momentarily distracted by the thump from nearby thunder, and an impressive flash of lightning.
The hours passed quickly, and I'm sure anyone looking at us chatting away would never have known it was the first time we'd actually met. We've known each other online for some time, so we weren't really total strangers.
It's made me determined to get out and attend more events in the next twelve months, and hopefully meet a few more of the many writers I know from blogging and Facebook/Twitter...
Look out for Patsy's Tuesday blog post for some #writingchat news.

How lovely! I've only met some of my online writing friends on one occasion, but it was brilliant to actually talk to them face to face.
It was lovely to meet you for real, Carol - and Maria too, of course.
Lovely post Carol, I'm hoping we'll all meet up again next year.
I also want to get out and about, mixing with other writerly types is motivating - what is it they say, 'no one understands a writer more, than another writer' and it's true!
How lovely - I too enjoyed meeting up with Patsy (and Gary) while they were touring Scotland! Hopefully I'll get to meet you and Maria sometime as well, Carol.
:-)
You never know what future meetings fate might bring you, Keith. :)
It is good to actually meet up with online friends. It's just there's no computer screen in the way. :-)
It was very good to meet you, Patsy, and Maria too.:-) x
Yes, I hope we can arrange to meet up next year, Maria- and hopefully with better weather.
Though as we are in the same region we might see each other at various literary events in the coming year.
That saying is so true. :)
It's lovely that no matter where we are in the country we are able to meet-up when in the same area.
Yes, I hope to meet you sometime too, Rosemary. :-)
Hi Carol - Patsy has certainly got around this year ... it's great for you both to meet up ... I met up with her three years ago ... so long! seems like last year.
Enjoy the rest of the year - cheers Hilary
What a lovely meet-up, Carol - and a great photo of the three of you :-)
Hi Carol. Lovely photo of the three of you. I met up with Maria a couple of years ago at Bleasby for a cuppa and cake. We writers know what we like!
Hope all is going well with you and that NWC is thriving.
Ange x
Thanks, Hilary. :-)
We get to know so many writers but probably go for years before meeting them in person.
Thanks. It was fun, Teresa. It was fortunate Gary took the photos before the bad weather darkened the sky. :-)
I met Maria this Friday too, Angela. One of the advantages of lots of writers in a region, and being able to meet-up. :-)
